I Would Rather Be Surfing

It doesn’t take much to make a website these days, and it takes even less to screw it up.

Remember that marketing is pure communication and that your website is the best marketing tools for your business and yet.

Everybody makes mistakes, but here are some big ones your small dream business wants to avoid.

1. Confusing designs
If a customer can’t navigate around your website, they probably won’t return. Make sure you make menus easy to follow so you’ll get repeat customers and visitors. Navigation should absolutely be a primary concern.

2. Readability
Sometimes, a website just flat out doesn’t read well. This can be not only because of the content, but also because of how it is presented. Make sure you have enough color and contrast that people with sight problems, such as color blindness or nearsightedness, can still read your website.

3. Content
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: content is so very important when it comes to websites! It’s not just how it’s presented, but what is said and displayed as well. Here are some tips for how to display content properly.
A. Use white space to break up blocks of text.
B. Use a lot of headers and bullet points.
C. Make your content scannable, meaning it’s something that can be read in under five minutes and the gist of it can be understood even if a visitor doesn’t read the whole thing.

Building a website can be hard, so don’t let these easy peasy things trip you up!

Let’s get you off to a good start with keywords.

SEO Tip #1: Find the Best Keywords

It is a huge messy waste of your time to optimize your website for keywords that are not even being searched for.

Period.

Please read that again.

Even if you do get top placement for a broad keyword that isn’t what most users are looking for, Google will calculate the number of times users did not select your listing, and the number of times they returned to the search results to choose a different website. Trying to beat this calculation is futile and more often then not, just a huge waste of time and energy.

Brainy girls invest into some resources into finding the best keywords: There are several SEO tools and SEO software available on the Internet to help you find the best keywords; most of which are offered by the search engines themselves and are completely free.

The next piece of advice is GOLD.

When using any SEO tool for doing keyword research, start by keeping your searches ambiguous, creating categories, and drilling down to create small clusters (or silos) of keywords.

The results will always return new suggestions and ideas, sometimes surprising ones that you may not have thought of.

With your SEO, they become the directories (or taxonomy) of the content you’ll want to have on your website.

Behavioral-targeting and using Long Tail Keywords are an excellent way to get higher ranking quickly for keywords that generate sales, and will have longevity to them in the search results. Poor keyword examples would be: kindle, nike shoes, roommate new york. Here are some examples of keywords that are ideal for SEO:

Monday, May 16th. However, you’ll get your the first video
of the Follow-Through Formula jump start program immediately
upon registration.

The program lasts for eight consecutive weeks after that.

2. I’m traveling a bunch (getting married, going away,
taking another course) during the course time, does that
matter?

We’ve had a lot of people write in about this and our answer
is that you’ll be just fine! We all have busy lives, that’s
exactly why you get lifetime access B-School. So if you fall
behind, you can jump back in at your own convenience. MOST
B-Schoolers do not make every single coaching call live, and
it isn’t necessary to do so to get the most out of the

All videos and audios are downloadable to your
computer/iPhone/iPod, and include full transcripts.
Marie will probably not offer B-School live again so
this is the only time we can guarantee that we will
personally coach you through the program.

3. Do I get individual one-on-one time with Marie + Laura?

We have weekly group coaching calls where you’ll call in
live to ask your individual questions.

Coaching calls are held at various times of the day and week
throughout the eight week course so that the greatest number
of people can participate. Every call is recorded and
available for download.

All live coaching is done via our weekly group calls. This
is a group learning environment, NOT a private one-on-one

Steps For A Savvy Beginner To Focus On First

Below you will find the 10 steps needed to build an online business. For more help with these click the link above.

•    Start sketching out your Cash-Flow Model and Smarter Marketing Funnel.

•    Learn the basic concept of how leads are generated on the internet (you may not know how to do it well yet, but understand how others do it well).

•    Create your first working lead capture page that links to your own email management system.

•    Start writing emails that are set up to automatically go out to your list

•    Get familiar with the following social media / content posting locations / terms, AND — understand the concept of how others use these to generate leads and business: Video marketing like at YouTube.com, article marketing like at Ezinearticles.com, social content marketing like at Squidoo.com, Hubpages.com, bookmarking, commenting, blogging, facebook, twitter (there are more but if you have accounts at these locations I’ve listed, and have at least dabbled at each of them you can cross this one off your list as a Smart Beginner). At least get comfortable with posting content at each of the above locations (if you aren’t familiar with these you just can’t attract people online–they’ll know you know nothing about modern marketing and that’s not going to look good).

•    Set up either a blog, website or both (not required but highly recommended to at least have a blog because you’ll learn more quickly than anything else through that process & it may be your rocket ship).

•    Understand what a “niche” and “target market” is and start working on identifying yours while creating value to attract them.

•    Create a clear understanding of the difference between spam and value, and be able to explain the difference (we’re not referring only to email spam but also commenting spam, social marketing spam, facebook and twitter spam, article spam, etc.

•    Understand fundamental SEO (just the basics)

•    Generate at least a few leads through your own lead capture page(s)
